Edgewonk Alternative

For traders who keep breaking their own rules — and want a journal that makes that visible without relying on them to admit it.

Edgewonk is the product that made trading psychology a category. Before the Tiltmeter, journals counted money; Edgewonk was the one that insisted your emotional state was data worth tracking. Tradeventure exists in a space Edgewonk defined, and on several measures Edgewonk is still ahead — including price. This page is an honest account of where each one fits, and it ends with a section on who should buy Edgewonk instead.

Short version. Tradeventure is the better choice if you want to start free, pay monthly rather than a year upfront, track a prop firm challenge, or have your discipline scored from your actual rule-keeping rather than from how you rated yourself afterwards. Edgewonk is the better choice if you want serious analytical depth — 50+ statistics, MAE/MFE, exit optimisation, Monte Carlo simulation — or a richer emotional vocabulary than pass/fail on a rule. It is also cheaper on the sticker.

The real difference: self-reported vs derived

Everything else on this page is detail. This is the distinction that decides which product suits you.

Edgewonk's Tiltmeter asks you. After a trade you record how you were feeling — patient, impulsive, in revenge mode — and it correlates those labels against your P&L, your win rate and your results over time. When you log honestly it is genuinely powerful, and it gives you a vocabulary for your own behaviour that a rule checker cannot. It is also the most mature implementation of that idea in the category.

The weakness is structural rather than a flaw in their execution: the trader who is tilting is the trader least likely to label himself as tilting. Self-reporting is most accurate exactly when you need it least.

Tradeventure's Companion never asks. Every trade is checked against the rules you set for that folder — max trades per session, daily loss limit, position size, max loss per trade, consecutive losses, cooldown after losses, minimum R:R, trading hours, allowed instruments. Break one and the entity loses experience and decays visibly toward stone. Breach a daily loss limit and it locks into a rest state. Ten phases, from Dormant to Awakened, driven by what you actually did.

It also resists being gamed after the fact. Deleting a trade that already scored, or moving it into a folder that is not tracked, freezes the entity for twelve hours. Changing your rules a second time in one day freezes it for twenty-four. You cannot quietly rewrite history to make it glow.

One honest qualification, because the distinction is a spectrum rather than a wall. Every penaltyis derived — violations are computed from your rules and nothing you type changes them. But two of the positive signals are self-reported: ticking “I followed my strategy” on a trade is worth +2, and completing your pre-session ritual is worth +5. You could claim those dishonestly. What you cannot do is claim your way out of a violation, and violations cost between −3 and −50, so the arithmetic does not reward lying. The asymmetry is the point, not a claim that self-reporting has been eliminated.

Which one you want depends on how you fail. If your problem is that you do not understand your own patterns, Edgewonk's emotional vocabulary and statistics will teach you more. If your problem is that you understand them perfectly and break your rules anyway, a verdict you cannot argue with is worth more than a label you chose.

Where Edgewonk is the better choice

This section is not a formality. There are traders for whom this page should end with them buying Edgewonk.

You want analytical depth

Edgewonk's statistics suite dwarfs ours and it is not close. 50-plus statistics, 20 custom stat slots you define yourself, MAE and MFE on every trade, and a Performance Simulator that runs Monte Carlo over roughly 500 trades. Tradeventure has a deliberately small dashboard — expectancy, max drawdown, top instrument, equity curve, discipline streak — built to be read at a glance rather than explored. If you want to slice your data thirty ways, we are the wrong tool and Edgewonk is the right one.

You want to model alternative exits

Best Exit Analysis, the Trade Management Optimizer and Alternative Strategies let you ask what your results would have been under different exit rules, then act on the answer. Tradeventure has nothing comparable — not a lesser version, none at all, and no timeline for one. If optimising trade management is part of your weekly process, this is decisive on its own.

You want emotional vocabulary, not just rule adherence

The Companion answers one question: did you keep your word to yourself? That is a narrow question, deliberately. Edgewonk lets you name what you were feeling, track it across hundreds of trades and find out that, say, your impulsive entries cluster on Thursday afternoons. That is a different and often more useful kind of self-knowledge, and rule adherence alone will not surface it.

You want a product with a track record

Edgewonk has years of operating history and is built by the Tradeciety team, who have been teaching trading psychology for a long time. Tradeventure is new and small. We are not going to invent a user count to put here. If buying from an established company matters to you, that is a legitimate reason to choose them.

You prefer one plan with everything unlocked

Edgewonk has no tiers. You pay once a year and every feature is on. Tradeventure gates real things behind Pro — the AI Coach, Smart Paste, broker auto-sync, prop firm accounts and the full ten-phase Companion. If feature gating annoys you on principle, that is a fair reason to prefer their model, and paying annually is cheaper than our monthly plan over a year.

Neither of us does replay or backtesting

Worth stating plainly since it is a common reason people shop for a journal: neither Edgewonk nor Tradeventure offers trade replay or an automated backtesting engine. If that is what you are looking for, neither of these is your answer — see our TradeZella comparison, where we say the same thing about ourselves.

Price

Edgewonk sells one plan, billed annually, with every feature included. The headline price moves with promotions, so treat the range as a range.

PlanMonthlyBilled annually
Edgewonk (single plan)Not offered~$169 – $197/yr + VAT in EU/UK
Tradeventure Free$0$0 — permanent
Tradeventure Pro$23/mo$199/yr

On the headline number this is a tie, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: $199 against roughly $197 is the same price. The differences that actually matter are structural.

Edgewonk is annual-only. There is no monthly option and no free tier, so the minimum commitment is a full year paid upfront, with a 14-day money-back guarantee as the safety net. Tradeventure has a free plan that does not expire and a $23 monthly option, so you can evaluate it for nothing and leave after one month. For a European buyer there is one more wrinkle: Edgewonk adds VAT at checkout, which takes a $197 sticker to roughly $240–250 for a Czech buyer. Our checkout runs through Stripe as merchant of record, which handles EU VAT — check the total at checkout for your own country rather than taking either figure on faith.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Edgewonk?

Yes. Tradeventure has a free forever plan: 50 trades per month, 2 folders, the full dashboard, per-folder rules, discipline tracking and the Companion across phases 2 to 5. No card required. Edgewonk has no free plan and no free trial — it offers a 14-day money-back guarantee instead, which means you pay a year upfront and claim it back if you do not get on with it.

Is Edgewonk worth it?

If you want analytical depth, very likely yes. Edgewonk ships 50-plus statistics, 20 custom stat slots, MAE and MFE, Best Exit Analysis, a Trade Management Optimizer, Alternative Strategies modelling and a Monte Carlo Performance Simulator over roughly 500 trades. Tradeventure has none of that and is not trying to. Edgewonk is also the product that made emotional tracking a category, and its Tiltmeter is still the best-known implementation. If you would use those tools, the price is not the question.

Does Edgewonk have a free trial?

No. As of July 2026 Edgewonk publishes no free trial and no free plan. It offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, so the evaluation path is to buy a full year and request a refund inside two weeks if it is not for you. Check Edgewonk's site for current terms before relying on this.

Is the Edgewonk Tiltmeter automatic?

No. The Tiltmeter is self-reported. You label your own emotional state on each trade — patient, impulsive, revenge and so on — and Edgewonk correlates those labels against your P&L and win rate. The correlation is automatic; the input is not, and neither is the interpretation. That works well when you log honestly. Tradeventure's Companion takes the other approach: it never asks how you felt, it checks the trade against the rules you set and moves on the result. Neither is strictly better — they fail in different directions.

Can I pay monthly for Edgewonk?

No. Edgewonk is annual-only — roughly $169 to $197 per year depending on the current promotion, paid in one lump sum, with no monthly option. EU and UK buyers pay VAT on top at checkout, which brings the effective cost to around $240 to $250 for a Czech buyer. Tradeventure bills $23 per month or $199 per year, so you can leave after one month if it is not working.

Edgewonk vs Tradeventure for prop firm traders?

Tradeventure has a dedicated Prop Firm Mode and Edgewonk does not. It tracks static, end-of-day trailing and intraday trailing drawdown, daily loss limits, profit targets, minimum trading days and consistency rules, with warnings as you approach a breach. Edgewonk can journal prop firm trades like any others and its analytics are deeper, but it has no drawdown model that understands challenge rules. Note that Prop Firm Mode is a paid feature — the Tradeventure free tier includes zero prop firm accounts.

Try it before you decide

The free plan is the whole argument. It does not expire, it does not ask for a card, and it includes the Companion across phases 2 to 5 — enough to find out whether a journal that scores your rule-keeping changes how you trade. Edgewonk asks for a year upfront before you can answer that question. If our answer turns out to be no, you have lost nothing and Edgewonk will still be there.
